Securus Technologies Ensuring the Safety of Inmates and the Correctional Officers

Securus Technologies is known as the pioneers in the correctional sector, and rightly so. The technology developed by the company has helped the inmates as well as the law enforcement agencies in so many different ways over the years. Not only has it helped the inmates to connect with their friends and relatives, but the investigative technology by Securus Technologies has also helped in saving lives of people. The community is much safer now with the investigative and security technology developed and provided by Securus Technologies to the correctional and law enforcement agencies. The good thing about Securus is that the company is focused not only on building cutting edge and new age technologies, but also ensuring that the customers are happy and satisfied with the products and services on offer. The customer service of the company is attentive and responsive and profoundly admired by its millions of customers.

Just like the last two years, this year too Securus Technologies won the Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service in three different categories. Securus Technologies won Gold for the Customer Service Complaints Team of the Year that looks at the issues with the customer’s systems. Zelperita Jackson won the next Silver award for being the best customer service professional of the year. The company’s video visitation security team also won the Bronze award for Front Line customer service team. The Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service is one of the top honors awards that is distributed for customer service, business development and also to the excellent sales professionals in different categories.

The 2018 Stevie Awards was held at Caesars Palace located in Las Vegas on 23rd February. The award saw 600 executives from around the world gathering here for the ceremony. The judging committee had a tough time evaluating more than 2500 nominations from different companies this year. Danny de Hoyos, the Vice President of Operations at Securus Technologies was happy with the awards and said that it is an achievement for the entire company. He felt that the company’s innovative way to handle dis-satisfied clients and to prevent them from happening again is the reason why their customers have been satisfied with their services.

Securus Technologies recently launched the highly awaited drone detection technology, which would be used by the correctional facilities to keep the drones away from prisons. In the last couple of years, it has been found that the drones are used to supply contraband slyly inside the prison. However, once the drone detection technology by Securus Technologies is installed, the drones would be shot down by the law enforcement officer as soon as it enters the prison premise. The location of the drone would be immediately notified to the correctional officers as soon as the drone enters the prison premise.

Dick Devos–article recap

Dick Devos is currently head of the top civilian panel that oversees the Federal Aviation Administration as one of the newest members of the U.S. Department of Transportation but is best known as the husband of Secretary of Education Betsy Devos. He was the CEO of his family’s Amway Corp. from 1993-2001. Just prior to beginning that position, he began the process of building a multi-purpose sports arena and convention center in Grand Rapids, Mich. The planning began for an area north of downtown Grand Forks so as to avoid the financial difficulties to the downtown area that had resulted from the introduction of similar buildings in the downtown area in the past. His first plan of action, therefore, was to ensure that no such building would be proposed for the city’s primary business district. This is one of the most significant examples of the ways in which Devos has used his business expertise to expand his own business endeavors in a manner that he suggests is intended to help towards the prosperity of the entire community.

Both of the Devos’ have inherited family fortunes and have sought to use the money and influence related to those fortunes to create significant changes in politics, education, labor, and the economy. This has manifested itself particularly through their mutual devotion to the Republican Party and their sizable contributions to the GOP. Dick Devos is thought to be largely responsible for the state of Michigan’s drastic change from an organized labor structure to a right-to-work structure largely independent from labor unions. His work in this direction was culminated through a state law passed in 2012. At the same time, his wife was working to expand charter schools throughout the state, likewise attempting to change the face of the state’s entire education system.

Another of Devos’ most significant contributions to the state of Michigan is his role in the business reconstruction of Gerald R. Ford International Airport which is thought to have created exponential growth of the number of passengers and a drastic decrease in airline ticket prices. In addition to practical contributions of his business expertise like this, his financial contributions (as well as those of his wife) are reported to be widely diverse promoting leadership programs, churches, health and human services, education, and the arts. An especially large contribution helped pave the way for the children’s hospital that is now part of the Spectrum Health System.

While Betsy Devos is more known for her involvement with education, Dick Devos is also an important voice in this arena. He founded a school for aviation at the Grand Rapids International Airport. It is a charter school, such as his wife is known to promote. As such, he has combined many of his passions and even some more generally associated with his wife (business, aviation, finances, and education) in the formation of this school. His roles in education, though very distinct from what his wife does, fits well with her controversial plans for U.S. education.

Jacob Gottlieb – Doctor, Investor, Philanthropist

Jacob Gottlieb – Doctor, Investor, Philanthropist
Born and raised in Brooklyn New York, Jacob Gottlieb was a true fan of the game of baseball and the players in it. As a New Yorker, his favorite team, of course, was the Yankees. When Jacob was only in the seventh grade he entered a contest in which he had to pick stocks and that contest he won. This victory led Jacob to have his own investment account that he could trade with, bringing him into the investment world at a very young age. However, in Dr. Jacob Gottlieb’s adult life, he surprisingly went in a different direction and decided to become a medical doctor. Gottlieb, in New York City, received his medical degree. It was then clear that Jacob’s heart was not in it, as he was working through his internship. He often found himself thinking of investments and finances and decided to go back to school to study economics in the nearby state of Rhode Island.

From London to New York he has worked in multiple different facets of investments to include being a Chief Investment Officer, an Investment Portfolio Manager, and a buy-side analyst. As he worked in both medicine and investments, Gottlieb can easily see the similarities between the two professions. He stands by his belief that they are similar in the fact that they both take a lot of planning, risk and advance skill, which he prides himself on having. It doesn’t stop there, as Jacob is also one of few people to have the designation of CFA after he received the chartered financial analyst award in 2001.

Dr. Gottlieb is also a philanthropist who enjoys giving back to the community, with founded charities to include Covenant House, Robin Hood, and Math for America. Math for America is one of his prominent charities that focuses on encouraging teachers in the New York area. Their focus is to give them a sense of empowerment as they go into the workplace as teaching professionals to create satisfaction in the profession so that the teachers enjoy a long-term career as they work within New York City communities.

Giving Power Back To The People – End Citizens United

During the 2010 court case between F.E.C and Citizens United, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Citizens United thus allowing corporate America to fund campaigns of their choice. Although the court’s decision does not allow politicians to receive funds directly, the companies can spend money in paying for advertisements and even spread malicious content against a candidate that they don’t like. Thus companies can control the United States election.

What’s devastating is that all these funds are sent unanimously, so the country has no idea who is sponsoring the Citizens United forums. A new group of change makers came together in early 2015 to form End Citizens United (ECU), a Political Action Committee (PAC). ECU headquarters is based in Washington DC.

ECU mission is to endorse candidates who want to introduce reforms in the political arenas in the United States. These reforms will bring transparency and accountability among politicians. It also seeks to raise awareness of the effects of lack of transparency in politics. ECU also collaborates with activists within the country who are on the same mission of ending corruption in the country. ECU shames Republican politicians who are benefiting through giving contracts to corporations by rigging the system. Their acts are posted under the thread “Big Money 20” and go into details how these politicians have benefited from rogue deals.

The Executive Director and President of ECU are Tiffany Muller, an ambitious leader who is as transparent as anyone can be. While working at Topeka City Council in Kansas, she was among the first public officers who were openly gay. She was among the team at Victory Fund that put the first LGBT senator in office. This was a groundbreaking record that set the foundation for acceptance of gays in the country. Muller is a degree graduate from the University of Topeka and Master’s graduate of the University of Maryland.

End Citizens United is supported by grassroots donors who are located in any part of the country. The donors consist mainly of individuals who are tired of wealthy corporations using their power and money to influence US elections. Through Muller’s leadership, ECU grassroots member grew to more than three million. She campaigned for funding during the company’s cycle and raised twenty-five million dollars. In December 2017 End Citizens United announced its plans to raise $35 million to increase its ability to endorse more candidates for the midterm elections scheduled towards the end of 2018.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Cory Booker are among the latest senators endorsed by ECU. Gillibrand announced her position to stop receiving funds from corporations on January 2018. She posted a video on Twitter of the same. Gillibrand is a reformer from way back when she worked under the Lincoln administration. She is also among the leaders fighting for transparency in political campaign expenditures. Tiffany Muller welcomed the new candidates in ECU and hopes to work together to streamline the election system in the US and put the power back to the grassroots where it originally belongs.
